NEWSTER'S TECHNOLOGY LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA)

We have commissioned an analysis to assess the environmental sustainability of two possible strategies of infectious hospital solid waste management and, consequently, to verify if our innovative solution is environmentally more sustainable than current practice. The whole study was performed by a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach conforming to the LCA ISO standards 14040 and 14044:2006.

The present study is a comparative assessment of two solutions for Infectious hospital solid waste management, compliant with Italian legislation [3–5]. The functional unit selected for the comparison is the daily waste amount treated by the sterilizer at the accredited Hospital in Rimini Province, corresponding to 240 kg of waste (4 treatments of 60 kg per day).

The result of this report quantified a relevant environmental advantage of our technology, compared to the current strategy of hospital solid waste management.
